the day after the hurricane/earthquake/tsunami

through life's rain, sleet, snow, and storms, then the dust settles, and all is calm.
A new day brings a new beginning, another chance to feel at peace.
Those that are left are the ones you should experience that peace with.

Why Faisreh stays and why she smiles

"you are beautiful, even when you stand in front of the mirror and frown and you don't like what you see, you are beautiful...i sit on the bed and stare at my hands. you are so beautiful."

Said to my friend Faisreh by Al-Shandihar, her husband,  the first time she saw herself in the mirror the day after her mastectomy, because of breast cancer a month before he proposed to her. They're still married 5 years later, and she's finally convinced that she's still beautiful. I always thought that Shandy, as I call him, was cool, but when she told me recently what he tells her daily, I knew I was right. And she's been cancer-free now for 6 years!
