-about love

I have learned not to worry about love; but to honor its coming with all my heart.

--Alice Walker

Everytime I  google 'black love', Our President and The First Lady's pictures always pop up. Their pictures are more appropriate than all the others; they're not posing for a photoshoot. These two are in love. I love seeing The First Lady holding on to her man, and I love the glow on his face. I'm sure it's not just because, at the time, he had won the Democratic nomination for The Presidency. It's also because, beside (not behind) every great man is a great woman.

Food for my soul :)

Soul Food fans rejoice…word is your show may make a tv comeback! You may remember the original “Soul Food” series ran on Showtime from 2000 to 2004 and it might be returning to Fox.

Based on the 1997 same name film, the show focused on the constant struggles and trials of a Black family in Chicago after the matriarch of the family passed away.
In its early stages of development, Fox is looking to bring new life to the series and bring in a new generation of television watchers. The move is in step with a growing trend in the TV industry. Slowly but surely, more mainstream networks that were reluctant in the past are now making way for more Black-centered shows.

As far as the new “Soul Food” is concerned, the cast, plot, and debut date all remain a mystery.

I, for one, and glad. I can't wait to see it. I just pray that Tyler Perry's hands are no where near the writing of the scripts.

Nia Long Reveals That She “Asked God” For Her Pregnancy

After a doctor’s visit left her with little hope of having children with boyfriend Ime Udoka, the actress turned to her faith for answers. “I honestly asked God for this,” Long, 40, says in EBONY‘s November issue. “I remember I was driving home from the doctor, and I called Ime, and I was like, ‘Babe, I’m really kind of sad right now … the doctor actually said if I wanted to have more children, it would be hard.’

Despite the unsettling news, however, Long — already mom to son Massai, 11 — and Udoka, a professional basketball player, remained hopeful about expanding their family. “The next time [Ime] came to visit, he said, ‘I don’t believe that.’ I said, ‘You don’t?’ He said, ‘No.’ And I said, ‘Good, me neither,’” she recalls. “Then I got pregnant.” “The medical [profession] tries to tell every woman, ‘Have your babies before 40 because you shouldn’t have children after 40,’” she says. “Society tells us, ‘Get married before 30, because no man wants a woman after 30.’”
But according to the expectant mother, the best things in life are worth waiting for. “You are not half the woman you’re gonna be until you turn 30. You’re not even half of that woman yet,” Long explains. “So I think if we’d just take our time as women, and do what comes natural to us and for us, we would make fewer mistakes.”

Congrats to them…

The Love of Loves

I am black, but beautiful, daughters of Jerusalem, As the tents of Kedar, As the curtains of Solomon.
                                                    Song of Solomon 1: 5
Genevieve Nnaji

King Solomon sang to the most womanly of his women. He sang to her body and to the door and to the lushness of the shared bed.
The  Song of Songs is not the least like the other books of the Bible of Jerusalem. Why is it there?
According to the rabbis, it is an allegory of God's love for Israel. According to the priests,  a jubilant homage to Christ's marriage to the Church. But not a single verse mentions God, much less Christ or the Church, which emerged long after the Song was sung.
It seems more likely that this encounter between a Jewish king and a black woman was a celebration of human passion and of the diversity of our colors.
"Better than wine are the kisses of your lips,"  the woman sang.
And in the version that has lasted to our days, she also sang: "I am black but I am beautiful,"
and she excused herself, attributing her color to her work in the sun, in the vineyards.
Other versions, however, insist the "but" was snuck in. She sang :
" I am black and I am beautiful."

Michele Bachmann Thanks Supporter Who Says He'd Rather Vote For Charles Manson Than Barack Obama

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) thanked an Iowa radio show listener who said he'd rather vote for Charles Manson than President Barack Obama.
Bachmann appeared on Des Moines-based WHO Radio with Simon Conway, a conservative radio show, on September 26 for an interview and to take questions from listeners. One caller told Bachmann that he had attended several rallies and thanked her for signing a t-shirt. After the host asked him to ask a question, he said that the president was a "walking nightmare" who was "blowing up our country."
"I would vote for Charles Manson before this guy," he said. "But I’m pulling for you big time, all the way, go Michele!"
"Thank you for saying that," she replied.
This is not the first time Bachmann has not stood up to a supporter who made outlandish statements.
Following the Sept. 12 CNN/Tea Party Express debate, Bachmann told the story of a woman who come up to her and said the HPV vaccine caused her daughter to become mentally retarded. There is no medical evidence to support the claim, but Bachmann defended repeating the woman's story in subsequent interviews.
The New York Times reported that such statements are part of a pattern, writing, "People close to the campaign, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mrs. Bachmann is often influenced by the last person she speaks with on an issue rather than maintaining discipline in communicating a message."

This was the first thing I heard when my radio alarm went off this morning. She hates our President that much that it would be a compliment in preferring a bat-shit crazy serial killer over him?   For real?  I don't even know what to say.

Just like you

I used to be thoughtful

but now i am just like you.
I used to be encouraging
but now i am just like you.
I used to be good at calling
but now i am just like you.
I used to be good at sending funny or encouraging cards
but now i am just like you.
I used to be good at texting good morning
but now i am just like you.
I used to be good at responding to your facebook status updates
but now i am just like you.
I used to leave voicemails wishing you a great day or a great weekend
but now i am just like you.
I used to be helpful
but now i am just like you.
I used to be good at coming to your aid
but now I am just like you.
***
I used to be all about other people
but now i am just like you.
Now, I'm all about myself.
just like you

(and if days,
weeks,
months pass and you ask why you haven't heard from me
,
 read this poem).
