  •        to treat everyone the exact same way they have treated me.

Q & A

question - If you can't count on your family and your friends, who can you count on?

answer- God.

23 December 2011

Like my grandfather had done for 30 years following his retirement to his death, like I had done with  him before we'd go back  home to have breakfast with the rest of the family for Thanksgiving or Christmas, and like I had done last Christmas day and New Years Day, I will feed the homeless Christmas morning and either return home to have breakfast by myself or go to some restaurant. The Portland Rescue Mission is where I will be.Because my grandfather cooked and baked all the time, I feel his presence every time in my kitchen, not when I'm cooking or bakingfor myself, but when I'm cooking and baking for other people. And when I miss my grandfather the most, I just go to my kitchen and cook or bake something and I give it to someone who'd appreciate it.

Beautiful

What's wrong with this picture?

Much respect to the First Lady, first of all. There is NOTHING wrong with this picture, at all.

Republican Lawmaker Caught Bad Mouthing Michelle Obama’s Butt

We know it’s election season when a story crosses our path in which a political party member is being called out for butt discussion. That’s what happened this week when Republican Jim Sensenbrenner was overheard commenting about the size of first lady Michelle Obama’s butt during a loud conversation in an airport lounge.
The Wisconsin Republican was talking about buying some “crap” at a church auction when he was approached by a female who praised the first lady. According to Fishbowl DC Sensenbrenner then commend that the first lady should practice what she likes to preach because ”she lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.”
The Rep. lawmaker was referring to Michele Obama’s “healthy-food initiative” says one of his aides. According to his staffer:
He doesn’t think the government should be telling Americans what to eat. While he may not agree with all of her initiatives, he plans to contact the First Lady’s office to apologize for his comments.”
Sensenbrenner says he will offer a formal apology to the first lady.
In the meantime perhaps he should remember that “when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face you get sprung.”
Seriously though, is this what our political system has become? Apologies for butt jokes about the First Lady? I’m more interested in knowing what “crap” he bought from the church auction to be quite honest.

To reiterate, what is wrong with this picture?  He's so used to flat asses that he can't appreciate the curves sistas are known to have.  Let me add--President is a lucky man. Not only is our First Lady attractive, but she is blessed with intelligence and ability.  Also, what kind of man publicly  critiques another mans wife, and in public?

Merry Christmas, from John Boehner

To the large corporations, PACs and wealthy individuals who continue to purchase our congressional seats for us: Merry Christmas. Hallelujah! Jesus loves you!
So far we’ve held off any and all attempts by Democrats to raise your taxes. All we have to do is keep convincing tens of millions of gullible voters that you folks are the “job creators,” and that the teeniest little tax increase will jeopardize the economy. And these dumbfucks keep falling for it hook line and sinker. Hee hee hee.
Remember now, we’re always in campaign mode — 24/7/365. So keep those bribes, oops, campaign contributions pouring in, and we’ll continue to bend over at your every command.
To the rest of you — the 160 million lowly working-class types who keep whimpering about “Waaaahhh, what about a tax cut for US???” — don’t come crying to me. (That’s my department.) You peons don’t have enough political influence for us to care whether you get a tax cut or even whether you get to keep your homes or not. The banks own us; you don’t. And if the economy starts faltering again because you didn’t get your tax cut and weren’t able to stimulate the economy, that’s Barack Hussein Obama’s problem. Our multi-billion-dollar PR department will convince you dummies that the economic slowdown is Obama’s fault and not ours. Works every time.
And furthermore: This is America, the land of opportunity, personal initiative and individual responsibility. Pull your whiny asses up by your bootstraps, work harder, earn more money, and if you play your cards right, you’ll have a little extra money left over that you can contribute to our re-election campaigns. Then — and only then — will we care about you.
Got it??

Things I don't understand

  •    Why white people need to assemble in stores or malls to do a flashmob and dance or sing.
  •    People who have no problem engaging in loud full-scale phone conversations on a crowded bus or train.
  •    Why Wendy Williams' tv show is so successful when she was so rude on her radio show
  •    Why this Barbadian native is being slept on when Rihanna is all over the place.
  •    Why white women on the train or bus keep asking me to stop looking so angry.
  •     The attention America gives British royalty
  •    Today  a 50- something year old black guy wearing jeans fastened with a belt just below his entire ass in which he wore Charlie Brown boxers, decided he needed to tell me about Jesus.
  •    That the Kardashians decided they needed to "release" a family Christmas card. In 3-D.
  •    What's taking Missy Elliott and D'Angelo so long to put out new music.
  •    Why people love to take but hate to give.
  •    How the North Koreans can pretend to be in mourning after the death of their dictator who caused them to starve. They don't even have electricity (as seen from the satellite image below).

OOPS! Fox News Mistakenly Uses President Obama Photo On Mitt Romney Poll Graphic

On America Live Wednesday with Megyn Kelly, Fox News’s graphics department had a bit of a problem. While displaying a poll graphic with the portraits of all the GOP presidential contenders in Iowa, an image of President Obama was used instead of Mitt Romney. Whoops.

The clip cuts out near the end, but that doesn’t appear to be producers realizing their error and shutting off the feed, just weather-related interference.

At a time when Romney is doing everything he can to assure voters his health care plan in Massachusetts was not the same as Obamacare, his press team must be pained that Fox News would make such a mix-up.

Do you know about Black Pete?

I didn't know.

In the Netherlands, everyone is quite aware of the Christmas character known as Black Pete. He's a little African slave who helps out Santa Claus.
According to the Dutch tradition, Black Peter is responsible for carrying a book full of the names of naughty children, along with a rod and a sack to take the bad children away. He also scatters candy for children.
Since the character's creation in the 1840s, the Dutch have defended it. They even dress up publicly in blackface, and claim that Black Pete is only dark from coming down the chimney -- but he doesn't wash clean.

Yet recently, Black Peter is causing more anger and controversy among the Dutch for the stereotypes associated with the Christmas character.
In fact, they became so mad that organizers of New Westminster's Dutch Sinterklaas celebrations in Canada have pulled Black Peter from their traditional parade after complaints that the black-faced helper carried racist undertones. Members of the African-Canadian community complained that the character was offensive and outdated. It was the first time since 1985 that Black Peter will not accompany Sinterklaas as he heads to New Westminster Quay aboard a paddle wheeler boat, according to the Vancouver Sun.
Bernard Piprah, who was an organizer of the annual Black History Month symposium at Douglas College, argued to the Vancouver Sun that the Black Peter character comes loaded with offensive, racist stereotypes:
"[The character] is degrading, and it's racist, and it's incredibly outdated," Piprah said told the Vancouver Sun. "You can't erase that. You can go to your local library and read that this Black Peter was a slave. He beat children. He was dumb, and he spoke buffoonish Dutch. There are just so many insulting aspects to that character, and I can't believe they're celebrating it in New Westminster."
Although many Dutch just want the tradition to stop, some would like to address the issue. In Holland, critics say that avoiding the racism implied in continuing the Black Peter tradition is a way of avoiding the thorny issue of immigration.
"It's kind of something they should address, no matter what the culture, when an aspect of it is clearly offensive to a particular group," Piprah told the Vancouver News.

"One comment in the article said this is insensitive bigotry to the higest degree. Case closed."   I can't think of any more to add.
I'm speechless. Can we not get love (and respect) anywhere?

Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.
                 --Joseph Campbell

I haven't found that place inside me yet, but I'm glad that I love to write, cook, and bake. I guess, since that's my joy, that is possibly my place inside. When I'm pissed off or feeling hurt, or if I'm  worried, or feeling lonely, I cook and bake, and while what I'm baking is in the oven, I write. Or I go to the gym. So far today I baked 4 cakes. No reason, and for no one. This afternoon I'll bring them to a homeless shelter on my way to the gym. It doesn't take the pain away, but someone gets to benefit from it.  My workouts are always better when I'm not in a good mood.

On a personal note - The Perils of Indifference

Indifference is not a beginning, it is an end. And, therefore, indifference is always the friend of the enemy, for it benefits the aggressor -- never his victim, whose pain is magnified when he or she feels forgotten.
--Holocaust survivor and Nobel Laureate, Elie Wiesel

I was reading a speech Elie Wiesel had given to the East Room of the White House on April 12, 1999, as part of the Millennium Lecture series, hosted by President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.

I loved the entire speech, but this passage touched me personally.

Wisconsin drive to force Scott Walker recall vote nears goal !!!

MILWAUKEE (Reuters) – Opponents of Wisconsin Republican Governor Scott Walker said on Thursday they have collected 94 percent of the signatures necessary to force him into a recall election next year.

The group United Wisconsin, which opposes restrictions on public sector unions signed into law by Walker earlier this year, said it now hopes to gather 720,277 signatures by January 17 to force the recall election.
The group said it had already collected 507,533 of the 540,208 signatures required to force the vote.
Their goal of more than 700,000 signatures would represent 33 percent of the 2010 general election turnout and nearly 21 percent of all Wisconsin registered voters.

The few opinion polls on a Walker recall taken so far suggest a very close vote with the state polarized between outraged Democrats and Republicans who feel he did the right thing to improve the state’s finances.
In response to the announcement by petition organizers, Republicans said they were confident Walker would survive any recall effort.
“Wisconsin voters … have zero desire to go back to the failed policies of the past,” said Ben Sparks, spokesman for the Wisconsin Republican Party.
Walker’s campaign announced that it had raised more than $5.1 million from 46,976 individual donors. “We have seen an outpouring of support for the governor and the steps he has taken during his first year in office to lay the foundation for a more successful Wisconsin,” said Walker’s communications director Ciara Matthews.
Walker, elected in 2010 with 52 percent of the vote, and a Republican-controlled legislature, passed a raft of controversial measures this year including strict limits on the power of public sector unions.
The anti-union measure triggered a fierce political backlash from Democrats and union supporters.

Republicans also passed a voter ID law opposed by Democrats and concealed carry gun legislation
Six Republican state senators faced recall last summer over their vote in favor of the union restrictions and two were recalled.
Organizers of the current effort to recall Walker have to submit the signatures to the state’s Government Accountability Board, which will then determine their validity.
GAB officials said this week they may need more than the 31 days allowed by law to finish the process.
Once the petitions are verified a date would be set for the election and Democrats would pick a candidate to oppose Walker.
Walker’s campaign on Thursday filed a lawsuit saying the process for reviewing recall petitions is illegal because it puts the onus on targeted politicians to find duplicate signatures.
In addition to Walker, as many as 17 state senators — 11 Republicans and six Democrats — and the state’s Republican lieutenant governor could face recall elections next year.
State rules allow such special votes if the lawmaker has been in office for at least one year and has not already faced recall.
Republicans hold a comfortable majority in the State House of Representatives but the political balance of the state Senate is 17 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

Troy Davis' Nephew Pens Obituary

Antone De'Jaun Davis Correia
Troy Davis, executed by the state of Georgia, was responsible, respectful… and innocent, writes his nephew

Until just before Troy Davis was executed, his nephew, Antone De’Jaun Davis Correia, visited him every other week. The U.K.'s Guardian has published an obituary for Davis written by the 17-year-old. Read an excerpt:
My uncle, Troy Davis, was arrested in 1989 and sentenced to death in 1991, three years before I was born. He was in jail my whole life, but I knew him very well. I visited him with my mother -- his sister -- on death row in the Georgia state prison every other week until his execution in September and he became a father figure to me.
Troy was wise, respectful, motivated and a great listener. He didn’t like the position he was in but said he had to learn from it, and used that experience to give me advice. He told me to pick the right friends and not to run away when things got rough; to keep my head up in school and take criticism positively. My uncle was a good family man before he went to prison. My grandma used to tell me that when he got a paycheck he’d give half to her to help pay the bills at home. He was responsible and respectful from a young age.
On 19 August 1989 a police officer called Mark MacPhail was shot dead in a car park in Savannah. My uncle was there at the time and, based on eyewitness testimony, the police decided he’d done it -- but they had the wrong person from the get-go. Later we got lawyers to go through the case. They did very rigorous investigations and found there was no evidence to prove my uncle committed the crime -- no DNA, no gunpowder residue, nothing at all. Most of the witnesses withdrew their original statements, and another man was implicated in the murder. We appealed, and the execution was stayed three times over the past four years, but on 21 September 2011 Troy was killed by lethal injection.
It was a tough time for my family. My grandma had died in May, so we lost two important parts of the family in the space of five months, but I think we coped pretty well. You’ve just got to learn from things and keep moving. My uncle’s death opened a big can of worms for Georgia and all the other death-row states. The case provoked a huge amount of debate in the US, and we received support from people all over the world.

Obama can't say it enough: Iraq war over

President Barack Obama speaks to troops at Fort Bragg, N.C., Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011. (AP Photo/Carolyn Kaster) (Carolyn Kaster)
(AP) WASHINGTON — Over and over, the Iraq war is over.

President Barack Obama, who opposed the war all the way to the White House, can't remind people enough that he is the one ending the conflict and getting every last troop home.
He is not just commander in chief intent on lauding the valor of the military. He is a president seeking re-election and soaking up every chance to mark a promise kept.
On Wednesday at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, a post that sent thousands of troops to Iraq and saw more than 200 of them die there, Obama summoned glory and gravity. In a speech full of pride in American fighting forces, Obama declared to soldiers that the "war in Iraq will soon belong to history, and your service belongs to the ages."
If the thought sounded familiar, it was because Obama has essentially been declaring an end since the start of his term.
Every milestone allows him to reach all those voters who opposed the unpopular war, including liberals in his party, whose enthusiasm he must reignite to win a second term.
There was the speech in Camp Lejeune, N.C., way back in February 2009, when he said: "Let me say this as plainly as I can: By Aug. 31, 2010, our combat mission in Iraq will end."
When that mission did end, Obama held a rare Oval Office address to the nation to celebrate the moment and declare: "It's time to turn the page."
In the last two months, Obama has taken three more swings at it, all of them commanding the attention the White House wanted.
In October, from the press briefing room: "As promised, the rest of our troops in Iraq will come home by the end of the year." On Monday with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki at his side: "This is a historic moment. A war is ending." On Wednesday to troops: "Iraq's future will be in the hands of its people. America's war in Iraq will be over."
He also made time this week to speak about Iraq to regional television stations serving military communities, most of them in states targeted by his re-election campaign.
Without question, the ending of a war is moment for any president to reflect with the country. Yet even Obama noted people have seen this one coming for a while.
Since George W. Bush was president, in fact.
Bush was the one who struck a deal with Iraq to set Dec. 31, 2011, as the final day of the war. Yet it was Obama who accelerated the end of the U.S. combat mission when he took office, shifted attention to Afghanistan, and decided to leave no troops behind in Iraq after this year.
The final U.S. forces will be out in days.
This, in essence, is Obama's mission accomplished: Getting out of Iraq as promised under solid enough circumstances and making sure to remind voters that he did what he said.
It is harder to remember now, with joblessness dominating the presidential debate and souring the public mood, but it was not long ago that the Iraq war consumed about everything.
In a new Associated Press-GfK poll, about half of those surveyed called the Iraq war highly important to them. It placed lower in importance than all but one of 14 current issues.
"It's understandable that he's trying to bring it back to the forefront of the public consciousness," said Ole Holsti, a retired Duke University professor who has written a book about American public opinion of the Iraq war.
"From a purely domestic political viewpoint, this is something that the president can bank on — most Americans are eager to bring it to an end," he said. "I think after all this time, there's probably a kind of overriding sense of relief: 'This is when we'll have the boys home.'"
Obama's approval rating on handling the situation in Iraq has been above 50 percent since last fall. In the new AP-GfK poll, he has ticked up four points since October to 55 percent.
Twice now, Obama has delivered we're-ending-the-war speeches in North Carolina, a state he barely won in 2008 and that is integral to his re-election prospects.
This is hardly a moment of national unity. About every issue seems politically toxic now.
As troops leave Iraq, 77 percent of Democrats approve of Obama's handling of the war compared to 33 percent of Republicans, an enormous gap. Independents are in the middle.
Obama's challenge has been to get out of the war without leaving Iraq in mess, to be consistent in his opposition without undermining the military under his command.
Nearly 4,500 Americans have been killed in the war. More than 1.5 million Americans have served in Iraq. The toll stretches in all directions.
So Obama was effusive in heralding the troops and their families. With no mention of victory, he called their service toward a self-reliant Iraq an extraordinary achievement.
"Americans expect the valor of the troops to be lauded no matter what they thought of the war itself, and Obama is very sensitive to that," said Cal Jillson, a professor of political science at Southern Methodist University. "That's one big part of what he's doing."
The other parts, Jillson said, have been to check the box of his campaign promise kept, and to close out the war as best as possible.
"Saying the troops performed nobly is easy," Jillson said. "The more difficult task is to make the case that the resources were well expended and the future of Iraq looks bright."
Especially for a president who called the war dumb and rash before it even began.
Obama has, though, been offering pronouncements of better days ahead in Iraq. Bush used to talk of Iraq becoming a beacon of hope in a region desperate for it. For those who caught it, Obama this week sure sounded plenty similar, arguing that "a successful, democratic Iraq can be a model for the entire region."
But mainly, Obama's message has been that it's all over, on his terms, just like he said. Again and again.

She doesn't have a problem with race though.

An Ohio landlord accused of discriminating against an African-American girl with a "white only" sign at her swimming pool told ABCNews.com that the sign was an antique and a decoration.

"I'm not a bad person," said Jamie Hein of Cincinnati. "I don't have any problem with race at all. It's a historical sign."
(AP Photo/Michael Gunn)

The sign in question reads, "Public Swimming Pool, White Only." It is dated 1931 and from Alabama.
Hein, 31, was unapologetic about the racist origins of the sign that she displayed at the entrance to her pool. She said she collects antiques and was given the sign as a gift. She also said that even though the sign seems to indicate that the pool is public, the pool is on her private property and "everybody has to ask before getting in my pool."
Michael Gunn, 40, is the man who took issue with Hein's sign and filed a discrimination charge with the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. He was a tenant in one of Hein's properties.
"We invited my daughter, who is African-American, to visit and swim in the pool for the Memorial Day weekend," Gunn wrote in his complaint. "The owner, Jamie Hein, accused my daughter of making the pool 'cloudy' because she used chemicals in her hair. Days later, she posted a sign on the gate to the pool which reads, 'Public Swimming Pool, White Only.'"
Hein said that the sign had nothing to do with Gunn's daughter and that it was already up at the time of that party, but cannot be seen when the gate is open.
Gunn said the family previously "had unrestricted access to the pool area," but Hein said that was not the case. She said everyone, including her own father, has to ask permission before swimming in her pool.
Gunn did not respond to requests for comment. In his complaint, he wrote that he moved out of Hein's property in June "in order to not expose my daughter to the sign and the humiliation of the message."
The Ohio Civil Rights Commission found on Sept. 29 that Hein did violate the Ohio Civil Rights Act by posting the sign, but Hein has asked that the decision be reconsidered. The sign has since been stolen.
"I've never said anything to that child," Hein said. "If I have to stick up for my white rights, I have to stick up for my white rights. It goes both ways."
The commission will meet to come to a final decision on Jan. 12, according to Brandi Martin, a spokeswoman for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission.

Attorney: Dr. Murray Shackled and Isolated ‘Like Hannibal Lecter’

Don't you feel sorry for him?

*A lawyer for Dr. Conrad Murray has blasted Los Angeles prison officials for treating Michael Jackson’s former physician “like Hannibal Lecter,” insisting it’s “offensive” to keep him in isolation and heavily shackled.
The doctor has been behind bars since early November, when he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for administering the fatal dose of anesthetic propofol, which cost the King of Pop his life in 2009.
Murray was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison, and his civil attorney Charles Peckham claims the doctor is being held under tight security in his cell at Men’s Central Jail, and even had his hands and feet cuffed when the two met for a brief meeting on Tuesday.
Peckham likens the doctor’s unfair treatment to that of Anthony Hopkins’ serial killer character Hannibal Lecter in “The Silence of the Lambs.”
“Treating him like Hannibal Lecter is offensive,” he tells the Associated Press. “This man who saved lives made a mistake, and they’re going to make him pay like a mass murderer.”
Murray’s former defense attorney, J. Michael Flanagan, was also shocked to see Murray all tied up during a recent visit, adding, “He can’t even scratch his nose.”
But sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore is adamant the extra security measures are necessary for Murray’s own safety.
Whitmore says, “(Murray) is a real target because of his notoriety and because of the Michael Jackson connection. We’re just being extra cautious right now. This is because of his notoriety. It’s not so much the crime itself.”
A probation report suggests Murray was suicidal at the start of his incarceration, and he was admitted to a prison medical ward while he was being held in custody at the Los Angeles County Jail prior to his sentencing.
Peckham is representing Murray in a wrongful death lawsuit filed against him by Michael’s father, Joe Jackson.
Murray is planning to appeal his involuntary manslaughter conviction and he filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday asking for a public-funded attorney to be assigned to his case as he could not afford his own legal counsel.

Meanwhile, Michael Jackson is still dead.

Question of the day

" To call woman the weaker sex is a libel; it is man's injustice to woman. If by strength is meant brute strength, then, indeed, is woman less brute than man. If by strength is meant moral power, then woman is immeasurably man's superior. Has she not greater intuition, is she not more self-sacrificing, has she not greater powers of endurance, has she not greater courage? Without her, man could not be. If nonviolence is the law of our being, the future is with woman. Who can make a more effective appeal to the heart than woman?"

― Mahatma Gandhi

Note to self- Push/Pull

A force is a push or pull acting upon an object as a result of its interaction with another object. Or another person.  There are three kinds of people in our lives, those who push you up high, those who  pull you down to their level or below, and those who are indifferent.  This is about those  who pull you down.
Some people make it their duty to make other people's life miserable. They strive on that, it's their way of life and for them, it's fun.
They are unhappy and they want you to be the same. You need to isolate yourself from these people, or they will do their operations on you big time.

"The Blues ain't about making yourself feel better," said Bleeding Gums Murphy to Lisa Simpson on The Simpsons,  "it's about making other people feel worse."
I personally call them toxic people, they are all around us, they are annoying, obnoxious, irritating, and depressing. They can dampen your spirits. They can get you fired,  ruin your relationships with spouses, friends, relatives, lovers, and they can erode your self esteem.

Be careful of unhappy miserable people. Chances are you have encountered one in your time....they are not noticeable immediately....but overtime, their true nature is inevitably revealed.
They're just bent on being chronically miserable no matter the circumstances. so if you are in the presence of a miserbale person, ..."RUN!!!"....you are probably not going to change that person....
Misery loves company.
That phrase originated from Dr. Faustus, a play from the 16th century about a man who was prepared to give up all hope by signing a pact with the devil in exchange for 24 years of living with his desires being fulfilled. The quote is from the lips of Mephistophilis, the devil's agent, in answer to the question about why Satan seeks to enlarge his kingdom. The phrase appears to mean that those who are unhappy seek to make others unhappy too.
This is a note to myself because recently I almost let a friend convince me that the idea of marriage was over blown, and that I was too old to have any more kids. My first and only child, a son, is 28 and is not my son biologically but he's still my son. He practices law in Argentina.  I've always wanted more. I've always wanted a Mrs Alieux  Casey-George as well. I had to step back and see this friend for  who he really was and remind myself of his history.  His first wife  cheated on him with his best friend. His second wife cheated on him with the son he had with his first wife. They now have a baby together.  His son is an electrical engineer in Mexico that he doesn't talk to. His third wife had the marriage annulled within 3 days of marriage because she changed her mind. She's now married to some rich guy in LA.  My friend's job as a driver for Frito-Lays recently down-sized him to on-call status. He used to work 6-9 hour days a week and now they only call him to work on Sunday mornings for about 5 hours.  He recently applied for unemployment. He's miserable. And bitter.
When I'm around him I simply have to tell myself that "I am OK"...or having a postive attitude, even when he's negative.  He keeps seeking to drag me into a miserable hell, like the clever demon attempted Dr. Faustus. I have to not take what he says  seriously, or I'll end up as depressed as he is.

But if he's not careful, he will have one less friend. As I write this, I'm thinking of avoiding him altogether.

Are you hanging with people who are pushing  (or pulling) you up or pulling (or pushing) you down?

Newt Gingrich's Gay Half-Sister Is Voting for Obama

Ouch, Newt Gingrich's gay sister, Candace Gingrich-Jones told Rachel Maddow yester-night that she wouldn't be voting for her brother should he snag the nomination--her snag being his anti-gay rights position. Not having your own relative give you an endorsement sounds a bit rough. But Gingrich-Jones, Newt's half-sister, is and has historically been a vocal advocate for gay rights and and is one of the directors of the Human Rights Campaign's youth outreach program. "He is definitely on the wrong side of history when it comes to those issues," Candace Gingrich-Jones told MSNBC's Rachel Maddow (video below), adding that she and her half-brother are "mutually respectful" of each other--which is helpful considering he didn't attend her wedding and that come election time, she is planning to "work really, really hard to make sure that President Obama is re-elected next year no matter who the Republican candidate is." And "mutual respect" must come into play when your brother recently told Iowans that marriage equality "is a temporary aberration that will dissipate. I think that it is just fundamentally goes against everything we know." Maddow noted that Jones-Gingrich hasn't been afraid to voice her dissent with her brother's conservative views, dating back to when he was Speaker of the House. "At the end of the day, we are a family and that's important," she said. "The catch is that when we leave the dinner table or leave the Christmas gathering, you know he and Callista still have way more rights than my wife and Rebecca and I do."

President Obama on Pearl Harbor

THE WHITE HOUSE

Office of the Press Secretary

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 7, 2011
Statement by President Barack Obama on the 70th Anniversary of the Attack on Pearl Harbor

Seventy years ago today, a bright Sunday morning was darkened by the unprovoked attack on Pearl Harbor. Today, Michelle and I join the American people in honoring the memory of the more than 2,400 American patriots—military and civilian, men, women and children—who gave their lives in our first battle of the Second World War. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families for whom this day is deeply personal—the spouses, brothers and sisters, and sons and daughters who have known seven decades without a loved one but who have kept their legacy alive for future generations.
We salute the veterans and survivors of Pearl Harbor who inspire us still. Despite overwhelming odds, they fought back heroically, inspiring our nation and putting us on the path to victory. They are members of that Greatest Generation who overcame the Depression, crossed oceans and stormed the beaches to defeat fascism, and turned adversaries into our closest allies. When the guns fell silent, they came home, went to school on the G.I. Bill, and built the largest middle class in history and the strongest economy in the world. They remind us that no challenge is too great when Americans stand as one. All of us owe these men and women a profound debt of gratitude for the freedoms and standard of living we enjoy today.
On this National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we also reaffirm our commitment to carrying on their work—to keeping the country we love strong, free and prosperous. And as today’s wars in Iraq and Afghanistan come to an end and we welcome home our 9/11 Generation, we resolve to always take care of our troops, veterans and military families as well as they’ve taken care of us. On this solemn anniversary, there can be no higher tribute to the Americans who served and sacrificed seventy years ago today.

Quote of the day- Ginger White

“One time we were having sex, and I was looking up at the ceiling, thinking about, ‘What am I going to buy at the grocery store tomorrow? What am I going to do with my kids tomorrow?"

Tell me who admires and loves you,  and I will tell you who you are.
     -Antoine de Saint-Exupery

maybe there's another me,
in another world
not weighed by such questions.
or held by such light.
or touched by such laughter.

but here, i ache. morn. and cry out.
someday it will fall together
as the setting sun
seals the days into one.
