My baking IG page (click
here) currently has 5,427 followers. yesterday it had 5,435. A month ago it was over 6,000. I remember when it was 7,109 followers and I was content with the growth of my followers, but I discovered alot of IG followers are actually bots.
And of the humans, while I do get about 50 DMs weekly complimenting how delicious something looks and I thank them and try to make a sale, I can count on 3 fingers the numbers of IG followers of mine who even buy my desserts. All of my other customers are by word of mouth, or people who have been present when I showed up at birthday parties in Toronto and Scarborough Ontario with desserts.
I do have a friend here who orders desserts regularly, and she doesn't even eat sweets. Her daughter works at the Hyatt which is a block away from me, so whenever she is having a birthday, or just having a tough time, her mother will see something on my IG page and ask me to make it for her daughter.
I used to be obsessed with the growth of my IG but now I don't care if it gets down to 10 followers, for obvious reasons. Just like my TikTok. Today it has 999 followers. A few days ago it had 1004. I get lots of compliments about how delicious something looks but zero sales have come from Tiktok. It's so odd to have so many followers and not one sale. The same with Facebook. I keep saying I will stop posting my desserts on that page, but when I make something for a customer, I want to show it off, expecting someone to see it and then message me, asking to order one like it, but on Facebook all I get are views.
I remember when I lived in Oregon, my friends in Wisconsin would say constantly 'wish you were near by. Your cakes look amazing. I'd definitely be ordering from you for the holidays if you were back in Wisconsin.' 2 Thanksgivings and 2 Christmases have passed since I've returned, and while I get lots of views, hearts, likes and dms, only that one friend who orders for her daughters was not bullshit.
I'm venting now. Sorry! Thanks to my Canadian customers!
