Some people have attitudes and egos that scrape the sky

But we’ll all be judged by the same parameters when we die;

Did we love and show compassion even for our enemies?

Did we treat everyone with respect and dignity?

Did we feed someone who was hungry?

Did we come to a friend’s aid even when it wasn’t convenient for us?

Did we share with someone in need?

Did we forgive those who trespassed against us?

There will probably be more questions.

I saw the strangest thing yesterday. Perhaps it's not strange after all. Perhaps it's just me and my issues.  Perhaps I'm not trusting of people, or perhaps I'm too protective of the people I love, but I saw what one would only expect to see in Holland: something that I would never ever do. -and I say that because on one episode of Oprah she was in Holland, and she saw, outside of a yoga studio, 5 babies in strollers. By themselves. They were deposited there by their mothers who were inside, practicing yoga.

Maybe because I grew up in New York City and Racine, Wisconsin, where the only reason you would leave your baby outside in a stroller was because you didn't want them anymore--I would not have expected to see that in the States, but sure enough, I did.

At the crowded New Seasons store ( the competitor to Whole Foods) in SouthEast Portland, I saw 2 babies in strollers, right outside the escalator doors. People were entering and leaving, and I seemed to be the only one who thought it was strange. Is it me or is Portland ( or SouthEast Portland ) a different kind of city?

While saving up money for a down payment for a car, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I had paid a certain company over a thousand bucks last year for services not rendered, and when the  Better Business Bureau asked how I’d like the issue resolved, I stated that I wanted all my money back.
I expected resistence.
Within 24 hours, the head of the company left a voicemail, asking for my address so that he could send me a check for the full amount within 10 business days, and he asked me to please tell the Better Business Bureau that the issue has been resolved.
I got down on my knees immediately and thanked God. Then I called him back, gave him my address and told him I would notify the Better Business Bureau after the check has cleared!
I received the check 2 days later. It put me $1,400 ahead! I’m almost glad the company didn’t do what they were supposed to do last year!

                          I feel blessed because I  have a best friend, and some really good friends--friends that have had my back through the rough times. 
                                   Periodically, God reveals  my fairweather friends to me, either by their actions or their inactions. It's been more often as of late. And initially it bothers me, but once I think about it, I'm glad He does it.
                                   It's like He's telling me to stop  wasting my time hanging with  (insert name).  That (insert name) is not worth my time.


                                   I don't know about you, but  I don't want to waste a minute hanging with someone not worth my time. And I'm grateful for my friends, and for my best friend who has had that title, for more than half my life

The President makes the call

*CNN is reporting that President Obama spoke to Shirley Sherrod on the phone moments ago.

The network says its news crew was with the ousted Agriculture Department official when the call came shortly after 12:30 p.m. EST, but Sherrod asked that cameras not film the conversation, according to anchor Ali Velshi.
Obama’s personal outreach comes several hours after Sherrod appeared on all three network morning news shows, as well as CNN and MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” to discuss the fallout from an edited videotape that led to her forced resignation – and then to two public apologies Wednesday from the Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack and the White House, via Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
When asked this morning if she feels the president should also apologize, Sherrod said she would rather have a conversation with Obama about race, and about the needs of rural America.
“I’d like to talk to him a little bit about the experience of people like me, people at the grass roots level, people who live out there in rural America, people who live in the south,” she told “Today’s” Meredith Vieira. “I know he does not have that kind of experience. Let me help him a little bit with how we think, how we live, and the things that are happening.”
In the meantime, the office released a statement saying the president reached Sherrod by phone at 12:35 p.m. During the seven minute conversation, Obama apologized for the events of the last several days, and emphasized that Vilsack was sincere in his apology and his efforts to rid the USDA of discrimination.
Obama also expressed that this “misfortune” presents a unique opportunity for Sherrod to work even moreso on behalf of those in need.
The White House daily press briefing will take place at 1:30 p.m. today, where Gibbs is sure to provide further details about the phone call.

I tend to

• get upset easily.
• be nicer to people than they are to me.
• offer to help people move and regret making the offer the second after I open my   mouth.
• purge facebook friends if they don’t respond to messages but have been online every day                         since I left messages.
• purge friends from my cell phone or email contact list if 2 months pass and they don’t  respond to  my       voicemails or emails.
• add those friends back when they see and ask why they haven’t heard from me.
•  convince myself of failure. And then I fail.
•  buy books every pay period and have no time to read them.
  
•  to eat something sweet at every meal.
•  purge those same facebook friends for the same above reason.
•  purge those friends from my cell phone or email contact list for the same above reason.
•  add those friends back for the same above reason.
•  not acknowledge the existence of people who have done me wrong  in the past.
•  hate being stood up.
•  hate when  people make the same mistakes over and over. and over and over.   
•  appease my mom and no one else.
•  treat people better than I know they would treat me.
•  be shy with new people until i'm comfortable around them.
• remember birthdays, anniversaries, and other events, even the birthdays of my exes. 
•  be told by white people that I always look angry.
•  surprise them by being the opposite of what they expect. 
•  dread encountering people who don't know when to stop talking.
•  sleep less during the week and too much during the weekends.
•   avoid conversations in the morning until about an hour later, unless its work-related.
•   have better come-backs, too late.
•   start diets and only stick to them for a week.
•   want to hear an entire story before offering an opinion.
•   be shy with new people until i'm comfortable around them.
•   convince myself of success. And then I succeed.
•  hate going back to Racine to visit and wish my mom lived in Milwaukee or Madison.
•  read people that are condescending to me.
•  hold my opinions of friends' girlfriends until after they break up or divorce.                
•  leave the gym immediately if I forgot my mp3 player
• inform people when I've caught them in a lie.

What inspires Alieux?

God didn’t promise me that life would be easy, and me for it’s been everything but easy. But what inspires me the most is knowing that God is still on the throne regardless, and that as long as I’m patient and focused  on Him and on doing what’s right, that He  will bless me when He is ready for me to blessed.  I’ve been impatient before, and took matters in my own hands- to disastrous results. I’ve learned my lesson and He’s put me back on track. My job makes me happy. I work with and for the coolest people. My boss is the nicest boss I have ever had.   I’m also inspired by hearing dramas of friends of mine- dramas that make my life seem like I have more to be thankful for than I realize.  My short story ideas inspire me. At any given moment I have 4 stories in my head, begging to be written down. My poems inspire me, though I can’t write one unless I’m either very angry about something, or hurt, or in love.  Langston Hughes’, James  Baldwin’s and Toni Morrison's writings inspires me. e..e. cummings ‘ , Amiri Baraka’s,  Haki R.Madhubuti’s, Nikki  Giovanni’s,  Sonia Sanchez’s, Mari  Evans’, and Maya Angelou’s poetry inspires me. My best friend Steve inspires me.  My mother’s voice inspires me-My friend Brian calling to tell me my 4 yr old God-daughter wanted to say hello to me…that’s the best thing ever.

Frederick McKinley Jones was one of the most prolific Black inventors ever. Frederick Jones patented more than sixty inventions, however, he is best known for inventing an automatic refrigeration system for long-haul trucks in 1935 (a roof-mounted cooling device). Jones was the first person to invent a practical, mechanical refrigeration system for trucks and railroad cars, which eliminated the risk of food spoilage during long-distance shipping trips. The system was, in turn, adapted to a variety of other common carriers, including ships. Frederick Jones was issued the patent on July 12, 1940 (#2,303,857).
Frederick Jones also invented a self-starting gas engine and a series of devices for movie projectors: adapting silent movie projectors for talking films, and developing box office equipment that delivered tickets and gave change.

in 1893,  In July 1893 Dr Daniel H Williams, MD performed one of the first successful open-heart surgeries in the country, suturing the pericardium on a victim of a stab wound to the heart. President Grover Cleveland appointed Dr. Williams surgeon-in-chief at Freedman's Hospital in Washington from 1894 to 1898. During his career he was instrumental in the founding of the National Medical Association, the only professional organization of its day open to black physicians, and the American College of Surgeons.

In 1883, gained the distinction of becoming Northwestern's first African American medical graduate and medical school faculty member. A strong advocate for the education of African Americans in medicine and nursing and health care for the underserved, he founded Chicago's Provident Hospital, the country's first black-owned andoperated interracial medical institution, in 1891. He would later help found other such hospitals across the country.

Born in 1856 in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, to free parents of European, Native American, and black heritage, he was apprenticed to a Baltimore shoemaker when he was 11 years old, after his father died of tuberculosis. A few months later, he ran away to Rockford, Illinois, where his mother and sisters had moved to be with family. By age 17 he was running his own barbershop in southern Wisconsin. At age 22 he began an apprenticeship with noted Civil Warsurgeon Henry Palmer, MD, followed by medical training at Chicago Medical College, later to become Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.

Dr. Williams died on August 4, 1931, at age 75. On September 9, 2004, the medical school celebrated the dedication of its 182-seat Daniel Hale Williams Auditorium in the McGaw Pavilion named in honor of the school's first African American graduate.

in 1955,  E. Frederic Morrow was the first African American to serve in an executive position on a president’s staff at the White House. Morrow was a minister’s son who had graduated from Bowdoin College and was employed by the National Urban League and the NAACP before entering Army service during World War II. After the war, he obtained a law degree from Rutgers University and worked for the public affairs division at CBS. He was an adviser on business affairs in the Commerce Department before joining Eisenhower’s staff as Administrative Officer for Special Projects from 1955 to 1961. As the sole African American on a staff dealing with racial tensions related to integration, Morrow faced difficult personal and professional struggles at the White House. The Supreme Court’s landmark Brown v. the Board of Education ruling, the Montgomery bus boycott, and the Little Rock crisis were the backdrop for Morrow’s White House years. On a staff with a civil-rights policy that was at best cautious, Morrow was often frustrated and angered. He lived at a time when qualified African Americans were excluded from high-level political positions. Morrow as a black "first" found relations within the president’s "official family" to be "correct in conduct, but cold." Someone is a wee bit upset

  About Lebron's  business decision to go “bring his talents to South Beach”.

 Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert  posted this irade last night on the Cavs blog:

                 " Dear Cleveland, All Of Northeast Ohio and Cleveland Cavaliers Supporters Wherever You May Be Tonight; As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier.

This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his “decision” unlike anything ever “witnessed” in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.

Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us.The good news is that the ownership team and the rest of the hard-working, loyal, and driven staff over here at your hometown Cavaliers have not betrayed you nor NEVER will betray you.

There is so much more to tell you about the events of the recent past and our more than exciting future. Over the next several days and weeks, we will be communicating much of that to you.

You simply don’t deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal.You have given so much and deserve so much more.

In the meantime, I want to make one statement to you tonight:

“I PERSONALLY GUARANTEE THAT THE CLEVELAND CAVALIERS WILL WIN AN NBA CHAMPIONSHIP BEFORE THE SELF-TITLED FORMER ‘KING’ WINS ONE”

You can take it to the bank.

If you thought we were motivated before tonight to bring the hardware to Cleveland, I can tell you that this shameful display of selfishness and betrayal by one of our very own has shifted our “motivation” to previously unknown and previously never experienced levels.

Some people think they should go to heaven but NOT have to die to get there.

Sorry, but that’s simply not how it works. This shocking act of disloyalty from our home grown “chosen one” sends the exact opposite lesson of what we would want our children to learn. And “who” we would want them to grow-up to become.

But the good news is that this heartless and callous action can only serve as the antidote to the so-called “curse” on Cleveland, Ohio.

The self-declared former “King” will be taking the “curse” with him down south. And until he does “right” by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma.

Just watch.

Sleep well, Cleveland.

Tomorrow is a new and much brighter day….

A friend recently gave me this book to read.
In the book, In Scroll IX, the phrase I will act now is written 18 times. The author recognized that all successful people take on their own lives by "charting" or consciously choosing both the desired destination and the path to reach it. Mandino's philosophical messages have Christian undertones. They are encouragements to build good habits, to live according to the laws that govern abundance and to find a vigor and joy in life as we learn to stand at the helm of our ship charting its course into the safety of the harbor instead of just waiting for someone else to bring it in.

I know, it sounds like I'm preaching to the choir, but I needed this book.

When things go silent, freeze and take in the extraordinary beauty that such a world can instill. This summer has been a long time coming. It has been/is about me learning stillness. I wouldnt trade it for anything.
