When the doctrine of allegiance to party can utterly up-end a man's moral constitution and make a temporary fool of him besides, what excuse are you going to offer for preaching it, teaching it, extending it, perpetuating it? Shall you say, the best good of the country demands allegiance to party? Shall you also say it demands that a man kick his truth and his conscience into the gutter, and become a mouthing lunatic, besides?
-- Mark Twain
This came to my in-box by a coworker who sends quotes to us each morning. When I received this, I wondered : how many of the 2 million people who lost their unemployment benefits today, either voted for the GOP or did not vote at all in November? I heard a “leading” GOP who blocked the extension of unemployment benefits say we need to focus on more important things, for example the national deficit. The GOP said until the extension is paid for in advance they will continue to block it. This is such disheartening enws. I really feel for all those without a job and are soon to not have any benefits at all.
